our story

curious to know where the journey began?

Hi, nice to meet you!

Our story is much wider, much higher, and much deeper than I could've ever imagined. It's amazing how the written world functions as a universal language, one that can connect people in a way nothing else can. I believe that literature is and should be for everyone. So that's why we're here - and it's brilliant to have you here.

why we're here

Zimmer aims to keep the written word alive in an era where screens overrun pages and AI threatens to take over traditional crafts. In this digital age, where social media has become exhausting, where the lull of the everyday schedule leaves us with much to be desired, why not take a chance with something that is pure and timeless? Taking time out to read not only provides a break from our fast-paced lives, but is a healing form of escapism. In a time when literature is becoming increasingly distant, reduced to soundbites and fleeting trends, we're aiming to give a platform to the voices that have long been pushed to the margins. The way our society views literature - as a vast and complex tapestry of who we are - is fading, dulled by an industry that too often amplifies the familiar while overlooking the raw and unheard. In this day and age, it's becoming more and more important to seek out stories that challenge, deepen, and expand our understanding of the world. Through uplifting marginalised voices within literature, we hope to breathe life back into the literary world, restoring its power to heal and connect from a different perspective. Literature should not be about the polished, comfortable parts - more about being alive, and reflecting the full range of who we are.

2023

If I went back to my younger self and told her I was in the publishing world, she'd call me crazy. People put me off publishing - it's not good pay, the hours are long, it's not worth it. I never thought it would be for me until I got into a journalism summer academy with The Times.

2024

We had to research everything first, which was a nightmare. Finding out about the publishing industry and its very marginalised environment was disappointing to see in such a contemporary world. That's where I thought of my mission - to use my love for literature to amplify voices, because everyone's voice should be heard.

2025

As we approach two years, it's hard not to be uncontrollably grateful for the community we've built. Pinch me - I’m taking calls with businesses, setting up partnerships, and even having photoshoots. Somehow, I am keeping up with all of the emails! This journey has been more rewarding than I ever imagined - and it’s only the beginning!

If you take anything from this - let it be to put yourself out there. I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. You are going to get things wrong, and that's completely fine! Trial and error was a bit part of our process. But it's so much more rewarding. I wish I had confidence in myself to do it even earlier. Life is too short to sit around waiting for a 'perfect opportunity'!
